Our mission

Excellent basic research relies on excellent tools. Our mission is to enable basic research with chemical tools. MedChemCORe is a team of highly experienced scientists in the area of Organic and Medicinal Chemistry, Structural Biology, Biochemistry and Cheminformatics. We will provide you with tools for your research project on collaboration basis.

Our team

The MedChemCore team is located in the Institute for Pharmaceutical Chemistry of the Goethe University. The expertise of the team members covers the whole spectrum of assay development, hit identification, validation, and optimization. 

Eugen Proschak

Eugen Proschak is currently Professor for Drug Design at the Goethe University and heads the MedChemCore. His main expertise is in hit-to-lead optimization for various target classes.     

Stefan Knapp

Stefan Knapp is Professor for Medicinal Chemistry at the Goethe University. He is a highly experienced structural biologist, who contributed to the development of numerous chemical probes for kinases and epigenetic targets

Dieter Steinhilber

Dieter Steinhilber is Director of the Institute of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the Goethe University. His expertise is the development of enzymatic and cellular assays.

Victor Hernandez-Olmos

Victor Hernandez Olmos works as a Senior Scientist for the Fraunhofer ITMP. Since 2011 he has been working as a medicinal chemist in a variety of projects. His expertise includes reaction optimization, multi-step organic synthesis, asymmetric catalysis, SAR determination, hit-to-lead optimization and combinatorial chemistry approaches.

Susanne Müller-Knapp

Susanne Müller-Knapp is Chief Operating Officer at the SGC Frankfurt. She is leading the cellular assay group specialized in phaenotypical Multiplex assays

Anna Proschak

Anna Proschak is a Senior Scientist at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the Goethe University. Her expertise is analytics of small molecules. She heads the in vitro PK unit at MedChemCore. 

Pascal Heitel

Pascal Heitel is a junior group leader at the Goethe University. He is a medicinal chemist with expert knowledge in organic synthesis, lead optimization, PROTACs, and cellular assay systems.
